Q.  What does it take to become part of the smart start staff family?

A. At S.S.A education and safety are our main priority. Every staff member receives our complete smart start training program and certifications. We ensure that all staff members go through an extensive background check and receive their C.P.R certification. In addition, S.S.A is committed to providing quality education. Therefore, we require all teachers to have gone to a full 4 year university and receive their B.A.  in Early Childhood Development and all degrees associated with this field.

Q. What is S.S.A.’s admissions procedure?

A. We require our parents to fill out a $100.00 non-refundable registration form and to leave a one month security placement fee. The security placement will be applied to the last academic month of the school year (June). It is not refundable in the form of check or cash under any circumstances.

S.S.A. also requires the following forms for all of our students: Birth Certificate, Immunization Forms, a Universal Health Form and any other forms given to the parent by S.S.A.

Q. Do I need to sign a contract for the year at S.S.A.?

A. Smart Start Academy does not require our parents to sign a contract upon registration. However, SSA requires a commitment from our families to complete a full academic school year (September-June).

Q. What will happen to my security deposit if my child is unable to start school on the agreed upon start date?

A. As a courtesy, parents are allowed one postponement of their original anticipated start date. This postponement cannot exceed 60 days from the original start date. If the child is unable to start within this period, the security deposit is forfeited.

Q. What should my child bring on the first day of school?

A. Make sure your child has the following on the first day of school: lunch, extra clothing, diapers and wipes (if not potty trained), a sheet and a blanket (full day students) and all items listed on our school supply list.

Q. Why does Smart Start Academy not provide lunch?

A. At SSA we have a very diverse group of students. Our students come from all around the world and have very different nutritional preferences. Therefore, we require parents to supply lunch for their child according to his/her preference.

Q. Does Smart Start Academy provide any snacks?

A. Yes. We serve healthy snacks every day. Snacks consist of some form of healthy cracker, cereal, oatmeal, vegetable, fruit, yogurt and cheese. All milk products served at the school are hormone free. We also serve organic lemonade and fruit infused water.

 Q. How are parents notified of school closings?

A. Upon registration, parents are given a list of all major holiday closings during the school year. In case of inclement weather, we will notify the parents by phone that morning of any delays/closings. Please keep in mind, if the JC Public Schools are closed due to bad weather – S.S.A. will also be closed for the day.
